* The Art & Craft of the Short Story -- Seattle, Richard Hugo House
Tuesdays, July 7-28, 2009, 7-9 p.m.

The short story is in a class of its own -- and in this class, we'll look exclusively at stories, both as readers and as writers. We'll read several classics, from Hemingway to Hempel, with attention to characterization, dialogue, setting, voice, and pacing. Writing exercises aimed specifically at short fiction will help you enhance your narrative skills as well as jump-start ideas for stories. After this class, you'll have an appreciation of the art of the story and be on your way toward crafting one of your own.
